About

Hi there! I am Sushmita.

I am in my late twenties, and learning to navigate "adulthood." I love Harry Potter, Masala Chai, and organizing things. My husband Mark (sometimes referred to as M here) and I currently live in Madison, WI.

I am a women, wife, sister, daughter, friend, dreamer, traveler, avid reader, homeowner, rookie DIY-er, organizer extraordinaire, and an administrative professional in higher education. Some days I am good at all these roles, other times I stumble through them.  This blog is about navigating all these roles sometimes through the lens of my Indian American identity

My hope is this blog will be my readers, and my happy place. A place where you share, learn, grow, find acceptance, and find joy!

About the Name

"Chai" is often what people associate with India. I also happen to love Masala Chai.

There is a saying that goes " As American as Pie." I like some pies- pecan is great.

Chai and Pie represents me and my home.

Me because of my Indian American identity.

My home because I am there, and additionally I am married to a Caucasian Wisconsinite. Sometimes our identities clash, most times they compliment each other. Regardless Mark and I can always bond over some Chai and Pie!
(we both LOVE food)

A little more about my identity...

I grew up in Mumbai and moved to Madison when I was twelve. As a result I am neither a first generation or second generation immigrant (Psst.. I talk about that a little more here). Moving in middle school was terrible, and I was quite resentful towards my parents for the first few years. But those first few years aside this identity, I have grown to appreciate the choice they made. It  led to an identity that is very close to my heart. An identity that has become one of my greatest strengths. An identity that taught me accept different people and view points. And best of it has given me two cities, and countries I can call home-although I feel like an outsider at both sometimes.  Which has made me realize we all really citizens of this planet!
